Dr. Susan McMahon: Dental Assisting 2.0: Take it to the next level “Seriously Doctor?…How do we use all these new materials?”

This half or full day course for dental assistants and EFDA’s provides the assisting clinician with a step by step overview of bonding techniques, filling techniques and new materials. The ever-changing science and constant influx of new adhesives and materials can be overwhelming for both den
tist and dental assistant. Each step of the process builds on the previous step and each is critical for clinical success. The role of the dental assistant can play in the elimination of sensitivity and bond failure issues will be presented. A look at the newest materials like low stress bulk flowables and universal option adhesives and vertical filling techniques, new composites, bioactive materials and more will be covered. We will look at these materials and techniques through the framework of restorative cases along with some cosmetic cases. This approach allows the assistant to utilize the step by step techniques exactly as she/ he would in a daily schedule.

Learning Objec
tives:
● The Dental Assistant will gain an understanding of how adhesives work on teeth and when each type may be appropriate. This understanding will help the assistant to know when to dry, when to cure, when to allow the adhesive to process on the prep.
● The Dental Assistant will understand her/his role in elimina
ting sensitivity in restorations.
● A simplified technique can relieve stress and increase speed for the Dental Assistant
● The Dental Assistant will be able to evaluate new materials and effec
tively utilize new products in their daily practice.
● This course will help the Dental Assistant better understand adhesive materials and their indica
tions. She/he will then be better able to serve the patient’s restorative needs and desires.

Dr. Jeffery Horowitz: “I Got TMJ!” Treating Temporo-Mandibular Disorders as a Part of Comprehensive Care

We all have patients that come in and say this. Although we may chuckle at first, ignoring or mishandling a Temporo-mandibular joint disorder can and will lead to case failures. Despite this, joint disorders are amongst the least understood, and most under-treated ailments in dentistry. Well you don’t have to run anymore. This course is designed to de-mystify temporo-mandibular joint disorders, leaving the participant prepared to work through most joint discrepancies and offer restorative solutions to increase their pa0ents’ comfort level. By adhering to the principles taught in this course, restorative failures will be minimized, ultimately increasing patient satisfaction. At the conclusion of this course the participant will have experienced:

● Case presentations to decide when imaging is necessary.
● Reading MRI’s and Cone Beam C-T scans.
● Record taking and Splint fabrication.
● Utilizing restorative materials to avoid removable options.

“The Science & Technology Behind Treating Sleep Apnea”

Roadmap to Lower Stress, Higher Income, and Healthier Patients! Sleep Apnea is a condition that affects more than 80 million Americans, yet less than 10 % of this popula0on is ever diagnosed. As a general dentist, you have the ability to screen THOUSANDS of patients each year, and ultimately improve their lives. Before treating any condition though, one must fully understand the science behind the disease, along with the materials and protocols. This course will explain the medical principles necessary for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea by the general dentist. The materials, technology and clerical needs will be referenced throughout the course, aiding in the interactive learning experience for the participant. Putting these pieces together will quickly build word of mouth referrals, providing a low-stress, highly profitable area of practice for the dentist. After completing this seminar, participants will have a strong understanding of:

● The definitions and terminology related to sleep disordered breathing.
● The sleep cycle, normal/abnormal sleep and its importance to overall health.
● The multi-systemic implications of sleep and oxygen depriva0on.
● How to interpret a PMD ( Portable Monitoring Device ) for the Diagnosis of O.S.A. (Lecture or Hands-On)
● How to implement sleep study data into treatment planning for the O.S.A. pa0ent. (Lecture or Hands-On)
● How to use Acoustic Rhinometry/Pharyngometry as an objective means of assessing the airway and managing treatment success. (Lecture or Hands-On)
● Record Taking and Bite Capture techniques. (Lecture or Hands-On)
● Appliance selection, adjustment and common pitfalls of appliance therapy. (Lecture or Hands-On)
